6 Installations in Nørrebro Opened Two Weeks Before the Festival
Nørrebro kicked off early on January 18 with light installations at six locations, including the
old platform hall at Runddelen, Nørrebro Station, and Skjolds Plads.
Hundreds of people showed up and danced to Silent Disco while enjoying warm
refreshments.
At Nørrebro Station, the opening attracted several hundred people around the installation
HARP by French artist Julien Menzel. The artwork transforms as viewers move in relation to
it.
Silent Disco took place at Skjolds Plads in Outer Nørrebro, near Ragnhildgade/Haraldsgade,
where Jakob Kvist’s installation THIS IS NOT A RAINBOW was created in collaboration with
local residents. The work helps to improve the space for users, passersby, and neighbors.
At OSRAM House, the interactive installation ETHEREAL IMPRESSIONS invites
participation, where presence and play transform the light and colors.
At the busy metro station at Nørrebros Runddel, silhouettes of dancers were projected onto
the facade of the old caretaker’s house, moving across the building and telling different
stories. During the opening, dancers performed live. The artwork, MOVING FREEDOMS,
reflects personal and collective freedoms and was created by light artist Eva Esmann
Behrens. She shared her thoughts on the piece and her experience with the Copenhagen
Light Festival.
It has taken a year to unite Nørrebro around opening six installations 13 days before the
festival officially begins. Kim Christensen, former chairman of Nørrebro Local Committee (A),
expressed his enthusiasm for this achievement.
A visitor, Karina Mosegard, also stopped by and shared her excitement about experiencing
the entire festival when it opens.
This year, the festival is starting early in multiple areas to encourage people to experience it
in stages rather than in one day. Vestre Cemetery near Carlsberg Station also opened early
with three installations, and Nordhavn will unveil six major light installations on Tuesday.
In 2025, the festival will feature over 50 installations, making it the largest of its kind in
Europe. The installations will be located in the City Center and, for the first time, around the
Lakes, Østerbro, Refshaleøen, and Ørestad.
Copenhagen Light Festival officially opens on January 31 at 5 PM and runs for three
weeks, ending Sunday, February 23, at 10 PM. Some installations will also be lit in the
morning for early commuters.
During the winter break, visitors can enjoy light runs, treasure hunts, and several interactive
installations, all of which can be found on the festival's website and app.
