STORY
Santa Claus and Pjerrot welcomed to Tivoli 82,700+ square in the center of Copenhagen and one of the world’s oldest and most romantic amusement parks.
More than 1 million lights have been lit up. 1000 Christmas trees have been decorated with lights from top to toe and 70.000 baubles.
The biggest Christmas tree from the forest was traditionally lightened up by Santa Claus’s friends.
Normally 1 million people visit Tivoli during Christmas from all over the world. This year, there are no covid restrictions in Denmark, but still the covid will keep lower visitors.
The covid numbers in Denmark are also rising with 4 dead yesterday, however still less than the 42 per day during the pick of covid. 75,6% in Denmark are vaccinated and the government aims to vaccinate 90% per December 1.
This year’s Christman theme is centered around our need for togetherness, with now two years of covid. For Tivoli this means hearts. And lots of them. All over the park you find hearts.
A 3.5-meter-tall glowing heart was set in front of the 150 year old impressive restaurant and hotel Nimb, which used to be an Arabic market. On the building, there was a light projection with the making of decorations for Christmas.
Along the small boulevards inside Tivoli, more than 40 km of light chains have been hung up.
The sound of happy people is important for Tivoli during covid, so bands are playing all over the park.
Tivoli opened in 1843. The gates were first opened on August 15, 1843. Among the first visitors was Denmark’s most famous writer, Hans Christian Andersen.
Tivoli Christmas will keep the Christmas decorations up until January 2.
