Copenhagen Light Festival increases the number of works from 36 to 50 and becomes the light festival with the most light installations in Europe.

The quiet and cold winter darkness in the Nordic countries being broken by oases of light art and illumination in the center of Copenhagen.

The laser called “The Green Beam” tells the city that the light festival is on. The 3.7 kilometer has the color green, because of the calm and it is a basic color within the laser technology.

The repeal of corona restrictions in Denmark expects to gather more than last year’s 500.000 people over the 3 week period, including the winter holidays in the Nordic region.

The big Phenix bird,  which is 11 meters long, 15 meters wide in the wings and 5 meters tall celebrates the urge for traveling during corona and nature.
French artist Francois Gauriaud, explains:
“We have made it during the corona period, so we are thinking about traveling and flying and going around, nature, so we have made the Phenix”.

Copenhagen Light Festival likes to have artists making installations with i unique comments about the lights installation.

I can’t express how happy I am to see this work. Celebrating nature, celebrating the sounds of nature and also the visuals”, says curator chairman Jesper Kongshaug.
Phenix is accompanied by audio of birdsong celebrating the nature that some humans still are destroying.

5000 pieces of yellow plastic found in nature have been cleaned and made into a 3.6 meter tall globe formed construction called A Dozen Sun, by Maj D from Denmark.

Arno Dejaco, a visiting artist from Italy says: “ Maybe the artists don’t have the answers, but they have really interesting and important questions”.

During the 3 week festival people get married at light weddings, a lightrun that might turn into one of the biggest in Europe other events celebrating the Danes once again try life without corona restrictions.

Many were clearly emotional after years with restrictions and visiting guest Peter Garde expressed: “It does something to your heart. It opens your mind. It makes a feeling inside of you of optimism because the winter and the last two years has been kind of closing. And now we are opening up and this light is helping you”.

The majority of the light works are placed along the quay and on the bicycle bridges in the most biked city in the world.
As a new element, many works will also be turned on in the early morning, when people go to work.
The beginning of February is the coldest day in Denmark and the Nordic countries with  temperatures often below 0 celcius.

The Festival invites all artists international and local with something on to express using a high level of lightning design-technique.

The Copenhagen Light Festival Sunday lasts until February 27 and will appear every February.
