STORY

Copenhagen Fashion Week is a fashion week giving new inspiration to streetwear, so many of the shows took place in the streets and unique places in Copenhagen.

Design is the 4th biggest industry in Denmark and China is involved as a major producer.

It is an international fashion week, because 80% of all the sales are made around the world, primarily in Europe.

Trend expert Louise Byg Kongsholm from Copenhagen Fashion Week explains:
“Copenhagen Fashion Week consists of several platforms. One of them is shows and catwalks. And this is where some of the most inspiring and avant garde brands are able to show who they are and what they want. They are an inspiration for all other commercial players and for the rest of us in the game, they show where the industry is heading.”

Designers are encouraged to experiment with materials, silhouettes, and concepts that challenge conventional norms. This fusion of innovation and sustainability has led to the emergence of groundbreaking fashion statements that resonate with audiences worldwide.

Copenhagen Fashion Week represents all the Scandinavian countries with gentle colors and inspiration from nature. It is sustainability as a core, however it does not compromise on innovation or creativity.

Louise Byg Kongsholm, Trend expert. Copenhagen Fashion Week cont.:
“The Danish fashion industry is quite big. We are a very small but very commercial nation. We live off being creative, producing clothes and selling them elsewhere. So it’s a big industry and it’s a big export industry for all of us.”

Covid was difficult for the fashion industry in general. Factories in China and shops in Europe were closed.

However this year’s Copenhagen Fashion Week has again attracted many and minimum 30,000 has been visiting sofare all over the world. Production and sales are coming back.

Ole Munk, Sales director for the international brand Bruuns Bazaar reflects:
“It’s been a super interest for our international visitors. We have seen a lot of not just Scandinavian and European, but also overseas and Asian visitors in Copenhagen.”

Copenhagen Fashion Week’s offers unique and new designs, which is a trend today explains Charlotte Balling, Director of Luna Moon Studios:
“It’s becoming kind of people who want to be more unique. I don’t think you want to be like the mass market. You want to be your own. And in what you’re wearing and how you’re presenting yourself. So I think that’s changed a little bit. I feel that people are looking for something and customers from outside are looking for something unique, actually. And I think that’s new for us.”

China produces for all the big brands in Denmark, however covid has challenged the Danish designers, as Louise Byg Kongsholm, Trend expert. Copenhagen Fashion Week explains:
“Danish brands have been producing textiles in China for many, many years as a very good and strong working relationship between Danish brands and Chinese production sites. Through the years, some Danish brands have chosen to do the final parts of the process in nations closer to Denmark, but it’s still being produced in China.”

Covid made people stay more at home on Zoom, so designs have become more relaxed and comfortable; which makes Copenhagen Fashion Week a good place to find inspiration.

The trends for designers in Scandinavia are often to incorporate sustainable soft materials, such as organic fabrics, recycled textiles, and eco-friendly dyes.

“A lot of people come here to get inspired. And Scandinavian fashion really has a big place in a lot of people’s hearts around the world. We have something about our silhouettes, about our way of doing it, or sustainability. Our green agenda at the same time. But really have a good fingerprint in the face of seeing.”

As Copenhagen Fashion Week continues to evolve, it will likely further solidify its role as a leader in sustainable and innovative fashion.

Copenhagen Fashion Week has become a platform that not only showcases the latest trends but also to embrace both artistic expression and the well-being of the planet.
