STORY

The Danish ESA astronaut Andreas Mogensen will in August be in space for the second time.
This time for more than 6 months as the pilot.

The space trip will this time be with a space-shutled learning about lightning, liquids in weightlessness and plants in space.

In an exclusive online briefing from the training camp talked about the exercises in the new spacecraft Dragon, which he will be flying to the international space station later this year.

I have to get ready. I have to establish a daily routine up there so that I can work for 6 months with my mates and colleagues up there”, says Andreas Mogensen.

It is the first time a Dane is the pilot on a spacemission.
In the seminar we got footage of the ongoing training he’s doing.

According to the plan, Andreas Mogensen will also grab things in space the station’s robotic arm.

The robot arm solve various tasks, such as capturing some of these supply vessels that are sent up to us”, says Danish astronaut Andreas Mogensen from EAS.

The space craft is again a shutle, that can land on the ground and Andreas Mogensen from EAS finds it really exciting to be the pilot now: “it’s a really exciting vessel because it’s not a capsule. It’s a mini shuttle, with wings, just like the old American space shuttle, which means it lands on a runway like any other plane”.

Andreas Mogensen got a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering, aswell as  guidance, navigation and control of spacecraft during entry, descent and landing.

One of the experiments are growing of food in weightlessnes, such as salad and tomatoes and Andreas Mogensen say: “I just hope that we will also be allowed to eat them, because we don’t have that much fresh fruit and vegetables up there”.

As of May 2022 do 44 countries have an astronaut, that has traveled in space.

In April 2022, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin said that foreign astronauts are ‘welcome to visit’ the chinese space station, but they will not be critical to its success.

China currently has six astronauts in orbit for the first time as the country carries out a space station crew handover.
