On the International Day of Light Sunday, the Water Light Festival usually illuminates the Alps in North italy, around South Tyrol and the old city of Brixen/Bressanone.
But for the second time the Water Light Festival had to be cancelled due to the Corona restrictions in Italy. Italy is still having a curfew from 22.00.
Artist Petra Polliand has instead of getting all negative been setting up positive words all over the city.
On central places do you now find positive words in 6 languages, such as “Transform”, “developpe”, “Unfold” and sentences like “Life wants to be moved”.
Petra Polli found corona challenging due to the constant negative talk about the changes. Changes in opening hours and changes in closures.
Instead Petra Polli searched to find the right positive words to write around the city as light art to the city and the world: “Vary”, “mature” and in Chinese “Expanding or Unfold”.
The city of Brixen/Bressanone is usually full of people, but since Corona started has the streets and squares been empty in the evening.
Italy has for the last month 14.665 new deaths and a total 123.544, which is around the same as the UK (127.901). The positive rate in Italy is 1.167%.
Curato Stefanie Prieth knows corona is an individual challenge and scary for many in Italy and the world. She believes people will find multiple meanings behind this art, but hopes people will get inspired by the positive message.
Italy is doing better now, but it still got around 140 deaths yesterday pr. day, among the highest in Europe and nr. 14 in the world.
The Water Light Festival do not expect to cancel next year on May 16 and will on the next International Day of Light light up Brixen and South Tyrol in the North Italian Alps with more than 30 big light-work installations.
