STORY
The world’s toughest mountain bike marathon race just took place in the mountains in the italian Dolomites in the Alps.

No other race in the world is 86 km long, and the riders bike up 4500 mh, meaning they bike 4.500 meter up the hill during the race. Some places the track increases 25% upwards.
69% of the biking was off road.

They also bike in altitudes between 1500 and 2500  meter.
Al this makes it the toughest race in the world.

In the mountains the riders drive along single tracks on the side of the mountains, rocky surface, through snow and over the top of mountains.
It took the men 4 hours to complete and the fastest woman 7 hours.

4000 bikers from 41 countries started in the valley city Selva (I) / Wolkenstein (German name)),in the altitude of 1563 meter / 5.100 feet.

Among the favourites was times former World Alban Lakata from Austria and Hector Leonardo Paez Leon from Colombia, that has won the race 5 times.

Immediately after the start in the mountain villages, the riders vent further up to 2500 meters heights / 7.700 feets
The riders stayed together in the beginning, but as it went downhill from the mountain Grand Cir, the riders got spread out. Only 13,3% on real roads, while 16.8% of the track was single tracks and more 69,9% is off road biking.

A little group with Russian Aleksey Medvedev, Italian Alfonso Cuervo, Chech Urs Huber and Columbian Hector Leonardo Paez Leon started to dominate the race.
On many of the uphill biking had 25 % uphill. In total the riders drove 4.500 altitude difference. 

Hector Leonardo Paez Leon from Columbia got away from the group and vent through some of the exhausting route through the Passes of Gardena, Campolongo, Pordoi and Duron.

Hector Leonardo Paez Leon, that is 36 years, won 3 mountain bike races in 2017 and with 236 point number 138 in the world.

Normally the snow up here melts in May, but this year the snow is still not melted in the middle of June, which made the race even harder.

The length of the route was 86 km and going down the Duron towards the village Selva (I) / Wolkenstein (G) Coloumbian Hector Leonardo Paez Leon could feel safe of the win.
In the time of 4:30.52 he won the 1oth edition of the HERO Südtirol Dolomites, the world’s toughest mountain bike marathon. 4 minutes behind him in second place, in a time of 4:34.55 came Urs Huber  from Chech Republic and the Team BULLS and on the third place on the podium took Diego Alfonso Arias from Italy.
Coloumbian Hector Leonardo Paez Leon was very happy for the 6th. Win in this unique mountain bike marathon. He didn’t expect to go solo so early.

Among the women there great expectation for the former HERO champion Elena Gaddoniand for the record holder Katrin Schwing, but is was italian Mara Fumagalli  and Finish Sini Alusniemi, that took the lead. Mara Fumagalli took of and after driving in 3.54.15 hours, she was 1 minute and 25 seconds ahead of the finish competitor and 2,30 minutes ahead of from Katazina Sosna , Italy. It was Mara’s 5th win.
As a special surprise did the Hero organisation present a man flying in a James Bond looking Jet-wing machine. The dary stunt was done by French Vince Reffet, that normally.  
French Vince Reffet, that normally is part of the DubaiX team was born in 1984.  
His dream is to fly like a bird and be completely autonomous.
The speed in the Dolomites was 400 km. or 250mph.
He is wearing a Carbon fiber glass dragon.
